Your DNA = Your Unique Value

Monday Motivation - Your DNA is your unique value proposition #personalbranding

Happy Monday! Yay!

While it’s easy to dread this day every week, I look at it as a fresh start and new opportunity to make the week whatever you want it to be. This is the day to set to tone…and of course, set a theme song (you knew I was going there)! When you have a pre-teen, your music exposure is broadened to the teenybopper, Disney Channel kind that can be really hard to swallow much less dance to…over and over again. But occasionally, my daughter introduces me to some pretty jammin’ tunes (she loves it when I talk like that LOL). Here’s one of my favorites. Good beat, great wholesome message. Man, I sound old!

The thought that we each carry a unique DNA is extremely powerful and liberating. Fully grasping the fact that every individual has a special recipe that can’t be duplicated does two things for your brand and business:

1. Eliminates the notion to competition
We spend so much time and energy worrying about what others are doing, how they are doing it and how what we are doing measures up. This is natural and we all do it, so don’t beat yourself up. But remember that no one can do it the way you can. And no one can connect with a particular group of people like you.

2. Creates a unique value proposition
Taking the time to really examine ourselves and pull out those special elements that make up our DNA will allow us to determine what we can offer our people (clients, customers, readership, fans, followers) that others can’t. In order to do this, you have to think beyond your expertise. While your knowledge is important and valuable, that knowledge becomes a commodity when it’s available everywhere. It’s how you present and share that knowledge that makes it yours. Your DNA adds color, texture, rhythm, motion, emotion and life to your expertise, shifting your knowledge from commodity to unique value proposition.
