Happy 4th of July! As we celebrate Independence Day and the sacrifices made for the freedom and democracy our amazing country, it’s only fitting to reflect upon the growing desire for individual freedom and independence, resulting in an influx of entrepreneurs and freelancers. Entrepreneurship has been a defining factor in American history, going back to our country’s founding fathers. From its roots, entrepreneurship has been characterized by the boldness of early settlers that took risks, went against the mainstream and let go of their past to create a future of their own, filled with independence and freedom.
The spirit of entrepreneurship fills the breath and floods the veins of those infected by it (if you’ve been infected, you know exactly what I’m talking about!). I was first infected at the age of 7 when I started sewing Barbie clothes and submitting fashion designs and business proposals to Mattel and have been living with the spirit ever since!
A new survey reveals a growing desire to follow independent career paths due to the freedom and flexibility these paths provide, as well as a groundbreaking redefinition of what it means to be an “entrepreneur”. Being an entrepreneur today is based on a certain mindset, not on actually starting a company, with the main drivers being freedom and independence.
